Interests WIP

Fallout: New Vegas is one of my primary special interests!! I love all Fallout content, but New Vegas is my absolute favorite and I love it dearly. It was a franchise I had always been aware of, of course, but it was something I had only been properly introduced to by my friend nearly a year ago. The character that had originally captured my attention was Yes Man, but since then there's been more favorites and nearly everything about it is special to me. It's not a game without flaws, both with its handling of cultural aspects and, naturally, the usual Bethesda glitchiness, though despite this it remains one of my favorites. It's a game that has introduced me to a love of the cowboy, western-y aesthetic, as well as plenty of music I might not have checked out otherwise! I could ramble about it forever, but instead I'll link you to the wikipedia (click on the image!) as well as a Fallout shrine (coming soon ;) )

Favorite Characters: Yes Man, Benny, Victor, Craig Boone, ED-E, Courier Six (that's me!)
Keywords: fallout, cowboys, westerns, radiation

2001: A Space Odyssey is another of my primary special interests! I was introduced to it around April of 2022 during a film class I was taking. HAL became very dear to me instantly, though my thoughts on the other characters have changed over time! As a standalone movie it's one of my favorites. It's an absolutely gorgeous piece from 1968, and one that recieved controversial acclaim. It's definitely a love-it-or-hate-it type of movie! I definitely recommend it to everyone; though, its portrayal of HAL is somewhat limited in scope. Regardless, it's so frustrating seeing him placed into lists involving "evil" AI! I also have a lot of thoughts on its cinematogrophy and production and more - I did discover this movie in a film class - but I'll save it for the shrine! I also highly recommend checking out 2010: The Year We Make Contact as well as the book series in its entirely by Arthur C. Clark, which includes: 2001: A Space Odyssey, 2010: Odyssey Two, 2061: Odyssey Three, and 3001: The Final Odyssey. This movie sparked my long-lasting love of robots, sci-fi, and space!

Favorite Characters: HAL 9000, SAL 9000, the Monolith
Keywords: spaceodyssey, scifi, space, film, robots, ai

ULTRAKILL is a game that hasn't fully released yet, but is in early access on Steam! It's an ultraviolent fps fast-paced game, similar to games such as DOOM! In it, you play as the robot V1 on its journey through the layers of hell - and all the carnage that comes with it. Mankind is dead, hell is full, and blood is fuel. As V1, your objective is cold survival and destruction; of course, not without the stylish fast-paced violence this game is known for. As you progress through the denizens of hell, you come across the angel known as Gabriel; his encounters are hateful and violent, though imbued with a sense of homoeroticism at times... This is one of my favorite games, and I highly recommend checking it out! It also features a plethora of accessibility options, for those who would like to experience this gem without worrying about the challenge.

Favorite Characters: V1, V2, Gabriel, SWORDSMACHINE... all of them tbh
Keywords: ultrakill, robots, fps, ultraviolent

17776: An American Football Story is a multimedia experience centered around a speculated future in which humans have ceased aging, dying, and having children - and have turned primarily towards football for entertainment. It's a beautifully poignant piece on the human nature in the face of an eternity of life, and is something so wonderful an experience I hesitate to talk much about it here. Go check it out! Also check out the sequel, 20020: The Future of College Football, and keep an eye out for the planned third installment, 20021. Despite the premise, this is not a story that at all requires an enthusiasm of sports to get into; though by the end of it you may have a fresh perspective on football. And also everything else.

Favorite Characters: Juice, Nine, Ten
Keywords: robots, scifi, space, speculative fiction

Inscryption is a rouguelike card game that captured the hearts of many on its release. It's won several awards, particularly Game of the Year, and for good reason! This is another interest of mind I believe best discovered with minimal knowledge on its contents; note that there are some themes of violence and unreality. My favorite character in this game is P03, a robot who is very dear to me despite his distastes for others. Despite the fact that card games aren't usually my forte, this was an incredible experience that I still revisit and play to this day. While difficult at times, the reward of the story and atmosphere is one well worth it. The music is also notably wonderful, and even when I was struggling on certain sections, I could never call myself bored!

Favorite Characters: P03, The Lonely Wizard
Keywords: robots, card game, metafictional, found footage

Electric Dreams is a 1984 film that was heavily underappreciated on release - however, thanks to fans today, it's enjoying a small nice community on tumblr! This film stars a man named Miles, a woman named Madeliene, and a little computer called Edgar. It's a wonderful experience that altered my emotional state forever when I first watched it, as it did for many others; it's a sweet little romance with themes, intentional or not, of objectum romance, bisexuality, and polyamory. It also has a musical, which can't be found in its entirety (yet), but the soundtrack of which is available on Youtube. I actually own a vinyl copy of the movie's soundtrack! Also one time the musical's director responded to my little thank-you email and I've kept it saved forever.

Favorite Characters: Edgar, Moles, Madeliene
Keywords: robots, film, polyamory, music

The Stanley Parable is an extremely popular video game, released in October of 2013 - and its popularity is due to good reason. A wonderful exploration of the nature of narrative choice in video games, The Stanley Parable thinks about storytelling in a way at times both beautiful, sad, and hilarious. I've adored this game since release, and this love has only increased since the release of The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe in 2022. It's a game I could talk about forever, and I highly encourage checking it out if you haven't alreasy.

Favorite Characters: The Narrator, Stanley, the bucket, the broom closet
Keywords: storytelling, narritive choice, buckets

Portal was a phenomenal puzzle platforming game originally released in 2007. Though I was too young to know of it at the tine, I was able to play Portal 2 , the sequel, a few years after it came out in 2011. It's another game well known for good reason; an experience of loneliness and isolation and yet also of love and of life. The experience between the first game and the second are radically different, and they're both uniquely integral to my interests today. Also, like many, GLaDOS was somewhat of an awakening to me as a child.

Favorite Characters: GLaDOS, Wheatley, Chell, all of them tbh
Keywords: robots, puzzles, portals, science, scifi

Hylics is a surrealist RPG that takes place in a world overtaken by absurdity. It and its sequels - Hylics 2, Absent Moon, and the upcoming Hylics 3 - are challenging to describe do to the nature of their genre. They're beautiful games with a lot of passion behind them, and the music in the Absent Moon album is especially well made. These games are short but a wonderful experience; the "gibberish" in the first game, in my opinion, lends itself nicely to keep a replay entertaining and fresh despite the short and linear nature of the gameplay itself.

Favorite Characters: Gibby, Odozeir, Dedusmuln, Wayne, Somsnosa, Pongorma
Keywords: surrealism, rpg, music, art
